The cradle of La Dolce Vita, Experimental Roma emerges on Via Veneto

A French perspective on Italy

Experimental Roma is a hotel of inverted perspectives, a vision of designer Rodolphe Parente. A play of contrasts between noble textures and repurposed industrial elements. Marble negotiates with stainless steel, terracotta tones vibrate against shiny metal. Crossing the threshold into the lobby, the eye is captivated by an intimate, almost sacred interior. A sculpted staircase, a reference to the great Italian masters. A heritage brought to life with nods to the 1970s: chrome tubes, disco touches, lurex carpets. A dialogue between tradition and subversion. A rooftop suspended above the city. An bar with views of the Villa Borghese and the Colosseum are a backdrop for a swimming pool. In between, 82 rooms unfurl. Some evoke a theatrical Roman room bathed in light. Others offer a more refined, almost futuristic tune.

ART & SPACE

Rome’s Galleria Ugo Ferranti opened its doors in 1974, quickly establishing itself as a key venue for international Conceptual and Minimalist art. Stepping through gallery doors viewers were immersed in pieces from artists including Robert Barry, Daniel Buren, Sol LeWitt, Robert Morris, Giulio Paolini, Richard Tuttle, Brice Marden, Cy Twombly, Jannis Kounellis and Niele Toroni. Following the gallery’s closure, its legacy has continued through the Archivio Galleria Ugo Ferranti, established in 2013 under the direction of Maurizio Faraoni.

A respected expert in artistic heritage, Maurizio Faraoni contributed to Experimental Roma, bringing his breadth of knowledge of the Conceptual and Minimalist art scenes of the 1970s and 1980s. His collaboration with Rodolphe Parente shaped an art collection in dialogue with the interior architecture, where the works are conceived not simply as decorative elements, but as an integral part of the experience of the space.
Through this collaboration, Experimental Roma brings its contemporary design language into conversation with a rich artistic history rooted in research, material and formal radicalism.
